There's nothing like walking into a room and being greeted by a lovely fresh aroma. Whether it's a citrusy lemon that'll wake us right up, or a lavender scent with chamomile notes to help us relax, having a scented room is essential. It’s surprising how creating an ambience in a room via aroma is forgotten about in favour of the other senses, usually visual or aural (with music). However, a pleasant-smelling room is good for concentration, mood and mental health. It’s one of those things that’s almost imperceptible but makes a real difference to wellbeing. To help you find the perfect scent for your home, we've created a list of our best reed diffusers available based on their longevity, scent and aesthetic. To get the most out of your reed diffuser place it in a hallway or a room entrance. The airflow created will help circulate the aroma so the scent will reach you every time you enter and leave the room. Make sure it is out of reach of children and pets and don’t place it near windows or radiators, as the heat will evaporate the fragrance oil. To get a stronger fragrance you should add all the reeds into the jar and flip them over more frequently. The more reeds you use, the more channels the fragrance can release through. By flipping your reeds every other day or once a week, the oil will lift up again giving you a fresher, fuller fragrance. However, if you prefer a more gentle fragrance you can use fewer reeds.Top tips for looking after your reed diffuser:

Oil change
When you need to refill your oil it’s a good idea to completely wash out the jar and dry it before filling it back up again. Also, when you change the oil you should add new reeds if you can – especially if you are changing the fragrance.

How many reeds should you use in a diffuser? ›
How many reeds should I put in a diffuser? To diffuse plenty of scent, 10 to 12 reeds tends to be about optimal but you can put as many reeds as will fit through the neck of the bottle. If the bottle neck is a little wider, feel free to add a few more to fill out the space.
Are reed diffusers better than plug ins? ›Reed diffusers are unique in that they can diffuse scent constantly, all without requiring heat or electricity to power them. However, you can't control the intensity of fragrance as easily as you can with electric diffusers, especially high-quality, cold-air nebulizing diffusers.
Why are nest diffusers so expensive? ›Nest candles and other luxury candle brands are more pricey for a combination of reasons. The short answer as to why these candles are more expensive has to do with the luxury brand recognition, more expensive ingredients, more complex and honed fragrances, sometimes more hand-made touches, and fancier packaging.
Are reed diffusers worth it? ›Reed diffusers can be very effective in scenting your home. However, they are often less powerful than other methods. For those with sensitivities to strong smells, a reed diffuser can provide a gentler option. Unfortunately, reed diffusers do require a bit of maintenance.
Why does my reed diffuser run out so fast? ›The airflow around your diffuser (if close to a fan, air conditioning or an open window the reeds will soak up the oil faster) can affect the diffusion rate of your fragrance oil.
Why can't I smell my reed diffuser? ›If you have topped up your diffuser with a refill and the reeds are completely saturated, or if they are no longer diffusing/giving off scent, they may have become clogged with dust. Best thing to do is to replace them with new reeds to get the scent rolling again.
Why does my diffuser finish so quickly? ›Poorly mixed oils may allow for a heavy smell at first and evaporate too fast that it consumes oils too quickly. A high-quality reed diffuser would simply last longer because the natural oils are mixed in a perfect ratio, allowing for a smooth absorption at a steady rate.
Are reed diffusers safe in bedroom? ›Not all reed diffusers are toxic. However, some of them do contain harsh chemicals, perfumes and preservatives that can cause unwanted physical side effects when inhaled. According to the National Capital Poison Center, some reed diffuser fragrances contain up to 70 percent isopropyl alcohol.
Why do diffusers stop working? ›People often get water inside the diffuser through overfilling, bumping or moving the diffuser around while full. If water or essential oil enters the diffuser it will quit working. If this happens, your should unplug and clean the unit and remove any water and let it sit for a day or two to "dry out".
Do reed diffusers work in large rooms? ›Reed diffusers are the perfect way to fragrance your home, but they work particularly well in large rooms. With a reed diffuser, you'll enjoy a more consistent scent than you would with candles or incense, which only release fragrance when they are lit.
How long do reed diffuser sticks last? ›
After setting it up, a reed diffuser will typically last between 1 to 6 months, depending on the amount of aroma oil in the vessel. Whenever you want a burst of fragrance, flip the reed sticks. Do this carefully one by one to avoid letting the fragrance oil drip out.
Why is my reed diffuser evaporating so fast? ›the room temperature: the warmer the room, the quicker the oil will evaporate, if placed near a heater or window sill where the sun shines directly (which we wouldn't recommend at all due to the fire risk – think glass and oil), it will evaporate even quicker.
How often should you flip reed diffuser? ›You should turn the reeds every two to three weeks to keep the scent alive. Submerging them in the oil gives the dry ends the opportunity to absorb all they can, while the previously submerged bottom stands out and projects an immediately stronger scent. Turning the reeds frequently will not make them last longer.
How often do you need to replace diffuser sticks? ›A good quality reed will last approximately six months. If the fragrance is no longer as strong as it once was, try flipping the reeds. Over time, the reeds will become saturated and can get clogged with dust. When this happens, it is time to replace the reeds.
Why can't I smell my reed diffuser? ›If you have topped up your diffuser with a refill and the reeds are completely saturated, or if they are no longer diffusing/giving off scent, they may have become clogged with dust. Why can't I smell my diffuser? ›A very common cause of diffuser problems is when the oil or blend you're using is too diluted. Double check your recipe, and if necessary, add a few more drops of essential oil to the mixture and see what happens—oftentimes this is enough.
How many reeds should I put in a diffuser? ›How many reeds should I put in a diffuser? To diffuse plenty of scent, 10 to 12 reeds tends to be about optimal but you can put as many reeds as will fit through the neck of the bottle. Are you meant to flip diffuser sticks? ›Whenever you notice the scent fading a bit or want an extra burst of fragrance. You should flip the reeds about once per week. However, don't flip them too often as the more often you flip your reeds the faster the oil will disperse.
What can I use instead of reed sticks? ›If you're using water as your base, you'll be fine with using simple bamboo skewers. They're less porous than traditional reeds, so they won't get oversaturated (and clogged) with the water.
Can you reuse oil diffuser reeds? ›As you refill your reed diffuser, one question you might be wondering is, “Can I reuse diffuser reeds?” Unfortunately, no. Once the reeds become saturated with a specific scent, you wouldn't want to use them in another oil. And despite how long you soak them in water, the oils cannot be washed out either.
